Elaine M. Kurek

Elaine passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017 at McLaren Bay Region. Age 90 years. The daughter of the late William Averill and Mary Luella (Heath) Weiss was born March 1 4, 1926 in Flint, Michigan. She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and its Women's Society. Elaine worked for many years at the Bay county Division on Aging. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Bob Club, Tops Weight Club and attended water classes at Delta College. Elaine enjoyed cooking, traveling, crocheting and when she was younger she enjoyed dancing and doing the jitterbug. Elaine enjoyed family events especially seeing the grandkids and great grandchildren. Left behind to cherish her memories are three children, Gary Kurek; Cheryl (Vaughn) Dietzel; Terry Kurek and Vicki Sutherland; her grandchildren, Justin (Jessica) Dietzel; Stephanie (Chris) Burback and Kelsey Kurek; her great grandchildren, Kailey Maxwell; Ethan Garzon, Kobe Govitz, Keadon Dietzel, MaryKay Burback and Kaide Dietzel. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Frank Kurek and they were married May 31, 1952 and he passed away August 11, 2016; one brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Louise Weiss. The family would like to thank the staff at Caretel Inns of the Tri-Cities, Bay Shores Senior Care & Rehab, and Diamond Home care for the wonderful and compassionate care given to Elaine. Funeral Services will take place Friday, February 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church 206 N. Scheurmann St., Essexville, MI 48732. Officiating will be Rev. Eric Stone with interment following in Floral Gardens Cemetery. The family will be present at the church on Friday to receive family and friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.
