God has blessed Elda Benecke, who was called to her heavenly home on January 9, 2022 with family at her side. Elda was born on August 25, 1941 in Maryland to Playford and Eleanor (Baker) Ramsey and moved to Michigan as a young girl. Following her mother's death, she was lovingly raised by her aunt "mom" Hazel (Ramsey) and Nathan Welch. Elda graduated from T.L. Handy High School in 1959. The following year she married Harold Benecke at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, where they are still members. Elda was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, an accomplished seamstress and a loyal friend. She was retired from Delta College.
Harold survives her, along with two sons, Tim (Mary Lou) of Bay City and Philip of Lakeland, Florida; three grandchildren, Christine Benecke, Lauren (Joel) Voss and Joel Benecke; four great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Julian, Quinton and Jocelyn Voss; brother, Cecil Welch; aunt, Beryl Benda and an uncle, Sherwood Ramsey. She dearly treasured her very large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews across the country. In addition to her parents, Elda was predeceased by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Buck & Billie Jean Ramsey and Playford & Nelsa Ramsey and three sisters and brothers-in-law: Arlene & Norm Wilson, Linn & Don Riley and Lou & Bill McKinney. Harold's sisters and spouses also predeceased her: Doris & Darrell Bedard, Margaret & Bill Meier and Helen & Edgar Landosky.
A private service is planned. Those wishing to make memorials may consider Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. The family would like to acknowledge the care of the staff at Bayfield Assisted Living & Memory Care.
