Compeau, Elmie D. Bay City, Michigan Elmie passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at McLaren Bay Region at the age of 91. Elmie was born October 16, 1920 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to the late Sylvan and Rosina Pierce. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a master's degree in Library Science. Before her retirement she worked at the Sage Library and SVSU as a reference librarian. She loved playing cards, gardening and art. She was a member of AAUW (American Association of University Women) and volunteered at the YWCA. She also loved attending community programs throughout Bay City. Elmie was preceded in death by her first husband, Budd Graveline and her second husband, Garnett "Ned" Compeau. She is survived by one son, Jim Graveline; one granddaughter, Mariana Elmie Graveline; one grandson, Nicholas LaFuze; two great granddaughters, Aeralynn Aubree Phillips and Layla LaFuze all of Traverse City; one step daughter, Ashley Compeau of Bay City; two granddaughters, Amber Lopez of Seattle, WA and Alexis Lopez and her husband Jon Morosi and one great granddaughter, Gabriella Morosi all of Ann Arbor. Also a beloved friend which she considered her daughter, Gretchen Gabler of Harbor Springs; one sister, Bea Knowles of Missouri; one sister-in-law, Jan (Gerald) Wittbrodt of Bay City; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and her caring caregivers that were her constant companions for the past year, Judy Weller, Melissa Curler, Gail Reid and Mary Roberts. According to Elmie's wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church (300 N. Wenona St., Bay City, MI 48706) Officiating will be Rev. Debbie Thomas. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. and until the time of services. In Lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the First United Methodist Church or the donor's favorite charity.
