Eloize "Effie" Thiel

Eloize “Effie” Thiel, 83, of Bay City, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 31, 2025.

Effie was born on May 23, 1941 in Bay City to the late Aloysius and Blanche Delestowicz. Effie was a longtime member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish. She enjoyed spending time with her church community and family, and appreciated the loyal companionship of her cats.

In addition to her parents, Effie was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of nearly 50 years, Leo Thiel; her daughter Lynn Marie Thiel; her brother Dan Delestowicz; her sister Caroline Rusnuski and her brother-in-law, John Hugel. She is survived by her sister, Francine Hugel, nephew, Luke Hugel, great-nieces and great-nephew. 

Friends may join the family in remembering and celebrating Effie on Sunday, February 9, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Gephart Funeral Home, located at 201 W Midland Street, Bay City, Michigan. A memorial service will take place at the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Atchinson officiating. 

At the request of Effie, donations to The Michigan Humane Society are appreciated in lieu of flowers.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Parish on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 6:30 p.m.
