Emery L. Chartier

Emery L. Chartier of Bay City, Michigan passed away Monday, September 15, 2014 at his residence. Our father, husband and grandfather lost his battle to cancer and COPD. Age 81 years. Emery Chartier was born on May 2, 1933 in Bay City to the late Theresa and Raymond Chartier. On February 6, 1954, he married the love of his life, Edna (Baker) Chartier. They joyfully celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past February. Emery was a great outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting. His number one hobby was building and flying Remote Controlled airplanes. He loved his weekly poker games with his brothers and sisters. Emery was a craftsman in his profession as a plasterer. He worked for over 40 years and was a member of the Bricklayers Union. His finishing skills can be seen in several structures around the State of Michigan, including one of his pride and joys, his parish of St. Hedwig's Church. Emery leaves behind to cherish his memories his loving wife of 60 years, Edna. He also leaves behind his children, Stephen (Debbie) Chartier, Diane (Tom) Schultz, Sue (John) Corrion and his daughter-in-law; Sue Chartier. His son David Preceded him in death. He also leaves behind his 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, as well as his brothers; Merle (Mariane) Chartier and Lloyd Chartier and his sisters, Mary Ann Shesky, and Joyce Tomzak. He will also be dearly missed by his best buddy Moose. Besides his son David, he was also proceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters. The Chartier family would like to thank the staff at Hospice Advantage, especially Carrie for the kind and compassionate care they provided for Emery during the time they cared for him. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Parish - St. Hedwig Campus 1504 S Kiesel St, Bay City, MI 48706. Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Kevin N. Kerbawy. At the request of Emery cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. The family will be present at the church on Thursday to receive visitors from 9:00 a.m. and until the time of service. Memorial cards for the wishes of the family will be available.
