Eugene “Butch” Waibel, a man of deep passion, generosity, and unwavering love, passed away on January 29, 2025, surrounded by those who cherished him most. He was 79 years old.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Marie (Wieland) and George Waibel, his brothers Mark and Ned Waibel, his brother-in-law Ron Weiss, and his first wife, Linda (Taylor). He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane, his devoted sisters Joy (married to Don Hannegan), Jill (widow of Ron Weiss) and his loving children: his son, Jason Waibel (Lisa), and his daughter, Heather Stockholm-Henningfield (Jimmy). He was also blessed with two bonus sons, Ryan Waugh (Valerie) and Andrew Waugh (Audrey), whom he embraced as his own.
Among his greatest joys in life were his grandchildren: Blake, Kylie, Stephen, Aiden, Cailyn, Olivia, Evelyn, Eleanor, and Sophia. Their laughter and presence filled his heart with pride and happiness.
Butch lived life with remarkable energy and enthusiasm. An avid runner, he completed multiple marathons, demonstrating his perseverance and discipline. His keen eye for real estate and business acumen led him to successfully manage multiple properties and ventures, leaving a lasting impact on those who worked alongside him.
His love for cars and music inspired the creation of the Rock-N-Wheels Music Festival and Car Show, which he founded after retiring from General Motors in 1993. Over its 14-year run, the festival became a cherished tradition, bringing people together through the shared love of classic cars and great music.
Later in life, Butch discovered a paradise in Mérida, Mexico, where he and Jane built a beautiful life filled with friendship, laughter, and community. His ability to connect with others was a rare gift—he made people feel seen, heard, and valued. His presence could light up a room, and his kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Butch’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and a life well-lived. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit lives on in the stories, memories, and hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
