Evelyn L. DeLong

Mrs. Evelyn L. DeLong, of Bay City, passed away early Saturday morning December 28, 2013 at Luther Manor Nursing Home in Saginaw, age 95. The daughter of the late Richard & Elsa (Schultz) Schroeder, she was born July 26, 1918 in Detroit. Evelyn was a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church and was active with the Ladies Aid and the Visiting Committee. She graduated from Bay City Central High School and was a member of the Reunion Committee. She worked for several years at Momberg's as a photo finisher. Evelyn enjoyed playing cards with her bridge club, loved to go to the casinos, was an avid Detroit Tigers fan, and also enjoyed reading, crocheting and crossword puzzles. On April 8, 1939 Evelyn married John A. DeLong in Bay City and he preceded in her in death on June 26, 1989. Evelyn is survived by her son-in-law, Timothy Thurau of Bay City; three granddaughters, Kimberly Thurau of Bay City, Dawn (Andrew) Wasney of Gloucester, VA and DeeAnn (James) Kelly of Marlton, NJ; four great-grandchildren, Timothy Wasney, Benjamin Wasney, Amanda McChesney and Dominique Kelly; a great-great-granddaughter, Karmin Wasney; and a niece, Kathy (Bill) Bauer. Evelyn was also preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Thurau in 2006; a granddaughter, Laura Thurau in 1976; and her brother and sister-in-law, Richard (Beatrice) Schroeder. The Funeral & Committal Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Rev. Paul E. Schaewe. Private interment will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home on Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Mrs. DeLong will lie instate at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
