Florence Z. Newcombe, of Bay City, passed away Saturday March 5, 2011 at Brian's House, age 91. The daughter of the late Walter & Edith (Kivet) Schrader, she was born February 8, 1920 in Alpena. Florence was a member of First United Methodist Church. She retired from Bay City Public Schools as a cafeteria manager. Florence loved to cook, read, listen to music, golf, and enjoyed camping and traveling and she was always up to date on current events. Florence is survived by her husband, Jerald J. Newcombe, and together they cared for each other for 71 years. She is also survived by her two children, Scott (Doreen) Newcombe of Bay City and Margo (John) McGinnis of Grand Blanc; six grandchildren, John (Joanne) McGinnis, Lee (Jennifer) Newcombe Jerry (Dana Woodward) McGinnis, Mary Ann (Drew Stewart) McGinnis, Kendra (Jay) Bath and Jeanine (Ryan) Cull; eleven great-grandchildren, Ryan, Jordan, Grace, Olivia, Abigail, Carter, Elena, Benjamin, Gabrielle, Braden and Gillian; brothers and sisters, Walter 'Budge' (Ruth) Schrader, Jean Coluccio, Bill (Lee) Schrader, Mary Ann Heard and Don (Gwen) Schrader; special friends, Flora Laidman, Phil and June Herter, Karen Quinn, Brewster and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Florence was also preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Strouse. Florence was a gentle and compassionate soul who will be dearly missed. At the request of Mrs. Newcombe, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday March 12, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, 300 N. Wenona St. Officiating will be Rev. Anthony N. Cutting. Private inurnment will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Brian's House or Rachel Sovereign Memorial Home.
