Mr. Frederick John Schmidt, of Bay City, passed into his Savior's loving arms to begin his eternal life on September 23, 2015. He was the third son of Richard and Esther (Reinhardt) Schmidt, born on July 16, 1942. Fred honorably served in the U.S. Navy in the submarine service. He was a proud member of IBEW Local #692, working locally and out of state for many years.
Fred is survived and loved by his wife, Roseanne; he was father and mentor of Kimberly (John), Karrie (Paul) and Stephen (Bobbie); also step-dad to Mark (Adele), Matthew and Michelle (Greg) Itter; he was super-grandpa "papa" to Jenna, Jessica, Joshua, Bradley, Katie, Hope, Jessica, Andrew, Benjamin, Alexander, Avalon and Atticus; and great-grandpa to twins, Connor and Ethan and also Lukas and Lily. Fred is also survived by two brothers, Gene (Carolyn) and Ralph (Mary Jo); two sisters-in-law, Emily and Carolyn; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Fred was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ron and Larry.
Our family gives special thanks to Fred's hospice nurse, Elizabeth Humphrey for always being there for us with her joy, wisdom, care and comfort, and also to our church family, friends and neighbors.
The Funeral and Committal Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust. Officiating will be Rev. Paul D. Theiss. Private interment will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home on Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mr. Schmidt will lie instate at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
