George E. DeLong, of Bay City, passed away Sunday morning November 25, 2012 at Huron Woods Nursing Home, age 96. The son of the late Charles E. and Maude (Loper) DeLong, he was born December 13, 1915 in Crump, MI. George served as a Medic with the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked as an Optician at White Haines Optical for 42 years. George enjoyed gardening and spending time at his up-north 'Castle' hunting and fishing. On April 13, 1942 George married the former Mary E. Ballor and she preceded him in death on January 6, 2003. He is survived by his four children, Drena (Ed) Greenhoe and Rod DeLong all of Bay City, Diane French of Bloomfield Hills and Debbie (Karl) Maas of Bay City; grandchildren, Ed Greenhoe, Jr., Dannette (Jason) Yates, Mandy (Ryan) Grosh, Jamie French and Jason, Dennis Hadd, Jr., Traci Hadd and Karl Maas, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Nicole, Brittney, Brandon, Avery, Connor, Brad, Kaiden and Kinzie; and several brother and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. Mr. DeLong was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Terry French; a brother, Russell (Charlotte) DeLong; and a sister, Beulah (Ray) Jean. The Funeral Service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Officiating will be Rev. Joseph Atchinson followed by interment in St. Patrick Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
