George Estabrook Jr. 92 of Bay City, MI passed away peacefully. Our loving, husband, father, grandfather was welcomed into his heavenly home on November 29, 2024. George was born on September 24, 1932 in Bay City, MI at the home of his parents George and Hazel (Coates) Estabrook.
George graduated in 1953 from Bay City Central High School. George played football and basketball, and played over 20 years of men’s league basketball in Bay City. He also enjoyed playing golf and was on a golf league for Saginaw Malleable for many Years. George would enjoy watching Golf and Nascar. His favorite Nascar Driver was Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr., and favorite professional golf player was Arnold Palmer.
His work career was with Resistance Welders as a draftsman for a number of years. He changed careers and for 25 years, he worked at Saginaw Malleable division of GM as a timekeeper. After retiring in 1988 George and Shirley enjoyed going to Sun City, AZ for the winter months. George continued to enjoy playing golf in Arizona. After 25 years of winter months, they came back home to stay in Au Gres and Bay City to be closer to family.
George married his high school sweetheart Shirley Himes and they have been blessed to have had 71 beautiful years together. George is survived by his wife, Shirley Estabrook; his three beautiful children, Deb stack (special friend Steve), George III (special friend Connie), and Dawne Kozuch (special friend Bob); four grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the last surviving member of his family. George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Hazel Estabrook; father and mother-in-law, Glenn and Geneva Himes; brothers, Frank, Bob and Jim; brother-in-law, Wayne Himes.
George’s family would like to thank the staff from Horizon Senior Living for the support and care they gave him, also for all the care from Transition Hospice Staff.
A funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at Gephart Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Linda Williams and Rev. Jamie Milton with private interment following at Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be considered to Horizon Senior Living in Standish, MI.
