George passed away Sunday, October 14, 2018 at McLaren Bay Region at the age of 89 years. George was born in Ossineke, Michigan on October 25, 1928. He was an active member of Peoples Baptist Church. On November 8, 1947 he married the former Mary L. Bradley. He worked and retired from General Motors. George proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Berlin airlift. In his spare time he enjoyed watching Detroit Tiger baseball and football, snowmobiling, and coaching little league baseball. Most of all he loved and cared for his family and grandchildren.
Surviving are his children, Michael (Marion) Howay of Kawkawlin, Patti (Wayne) Liske of Ossineke, MI, Deb Cardinal (Gary Tasiemski) of Kawkawlin and Connie (Gerald) Stanley of Bay City; his "adopted' daughter, Carrie McDonell of Bay City; nineteen grandchildren; forty two great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; brother, Leonard Howay of Royal Oak; sister, Edith Schultz of Ossineke, MI; sister-in-law, Jeannette Schultz of Ossineke, MI and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; son Dennis; mother and step father, Paul and Lexie (Howay) Schultz; sons-in-law, Allan Cardinal and Carl Cinciala; great grandsons, Zachary Robertson and Luke Cinciala and his brother, Robert Schultz.
Funeral service will take place on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Peoples Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Dr. Daniel R. Hester. Burial with military graveside honors in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. 201 West Midland Street, Bay City, Michigan 48706 on Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mr. Howay will lie in state at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
