Gertrude A. Mahoney

Mrs. Mahoney passed away on Monday evening October 11, 2010 at Bay Medical Care Facility. Age 93 years. She was born on February 27, 1917 to the late Edgar and Delina (Gentle) McFarland. She married Bernard Mahoney in 1946 and he passed away in 1988. She was a lifelong member of our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church and the Little Flower Society. Mrs. Mahoney is survived by four sons, Michael (Blanche Fraser), Dennis, Kevin (Genessa), Patrick (Irene) Mahoney; one daughter, Mary (Thomas) Pawlak; ten grandchildren, Matthew, John, Sara, Lauren, Miles, Kelvin, Erica, Daniel, Nicole and Samuel; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Sister Therese McFarland of Bay City and Sister Mary McFarland of Farmington Hills. In addition to her parents and husband, Gert was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Beth; six brothers, Joseph, Walter, George, Elmer, James and Kenneth McFarland and four sisters, Dorothy McFarland, Bernice McFarland, Irene McFarland and Elaine "Mickey" Martinski. Gert's family would like to give a special thank you to the staff and caregivers at Bay Medical Care Facility 2-West for the loving care given to our mother during her stay. Your dedication and kindness will never be forgotten. The Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church. The celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Stephen J. Fillion with private Rite of Committal in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m.. The Vigil for the Deceased will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mrs. Mahoney will be taken to the church to lie in state on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. and until the time of services. Memorial cards for Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church or Bay Medical Care Facility will be available at the funeral home.
