Glenn Knapp

Mr. Glenn Knapp, of Bay City, passed away on Wednesday evening, October 12, 2016 at McLaren Bay Region, age 79. The son of the late Roy and Clara (Reed) Knapp, he was born on July 17, 1937 in Harrison. Glenn learned at a young age the importance of hard work to provide for his family, something that he continued throughout his life. He was proud of the work he did for 35 years at Sheriff-Goslin Roofing & Contracting. Glenn could build nearly anything, from houses to his well-known recurve bows with wood he found in the forest. While being raised in Harrison, he became an outdoor enthusiast and had a great love of nature and has enjoyed hunting and fishing for many years. He was a true card shark and seldom had a losing hand. Glenn had a sweet and quirky sense of humor and never had an unkind word to say about anyone. He was fiercely loyal to his family and loved and treated his step children and step grandchildren as his own. While dementia changed him from being the pivotal part of his family, Glenn had a strong faith and accepted this final hand that was dealt to him.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Betty, whom he married on May 7, 1977; his children, Penny Knapp of Bay City, Curtis (Kyoko) Hammond, Jr. of Byron City, Kitty (Richard) Banaszak of Essexville, Joseph (Mary) Hammond of Essexville, Jeffrey Hammond of Colorado and Sue Papajesk and Matt Besaw of Traverse City; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd (Deanna) Knapp of Idaho and Richard Knapp of Coleman; two sisters, Jean Ann Lane and Pauline Rhode of Harrison; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Glenn was also preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Knapp; and two brothers, LeRoy and Dale Knapp.
It was Glenn's desire for cremation to take place and a memorial service will be held in the spring of 2017.   For those who so desire, memorial contributions may be directed to Betty Knapp for a charity to be determined later.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. www.gephartfuneralhome.com
