KARST, Godfred "Gus" of Bay City, Michigan. Gus made his long awaited transition to the "Promised Land" on March 17, 2010 at the Carriage House in Bay City, Michigan. His love for Jesus never wavered. He was born in a sugar beet field in Reese, Michigan on October 4, 1916 to Henry and Mary (Urich) Karst. Age 93 years. The family worked on several farms in mid-Michigan area as Gus was growing up. He married Martha Kerbel in May of 1944 in Saginaw, MI. She survives him. Gus proudly served in the U.S. Navy in W.W. II on the cruiser, Columbia and was discharged in 1945. After the war, he became a Motor Winder and Electrician. He retired as an Electrician from the Saginaw VA Hospital in 1979. Gus was an excellent craftsman and gardener. In addition to Martha, those left to mourn his passing are his children, Tim (Trudy) Karst of Bay City, Mi, and Janet (Gregg) Karst Williard of Madison, Wisconsin, as well as six grandchildren and five (soon to be six) great grandchildren. One sister, Mary Schultz, of Saginaw, Mi also survives him. He was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters. Lydia, Edna, Molly, Annie, Clara, Henry, Emanuel, Jacob and a daughter-in-law, Delores (Lolly). Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday, March 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at New Life Missionary Church (3121 E. North Union) in Bay City where Gus was a charter member. Pastors Jonathon Boyer and Andreas Teich will officiate. Friends may greet the family at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gephart Funeral Home. No visitation will be held at the funeral home. A private family burial will take place at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Freeland. In lieu of flowers, those considering an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Carriage House Memorial Fund of the American Heart Association.
