Gwen P.B. Cathcart, of Bay City, passed away Sunday morning September 11, 2011 at Brian's House, age 84. The daughter of the late Fred & Bernice (Haddock) Cathcart, she was born March 17, 1927 in Farmington, New Hampshire. Gwen retired as a Major from the U.S. Army, serving for over 20 years, including during W.W.II, Korea and Vietnam. She was a member of numerous veterans' organizations, including the D.A.V., the Military Officers Association and the Army Women's Foundation. Gwen was a member of St. James Catholic Church and its Altar Society and also the League of Catholic Women & Men. She enjoyed antiquing and traveling. Gwen is survived by a special great-niece, Tammy Glynn of Westfield, MA and several other nieces & nephews; her dear friends from the Provo Family; and her supportive friends, Kay & Fred Jeske. Besides her parents, Gwen was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters and many members of the Cathcart Family; and her dear friend, Martha Jane Provo. Gwen's family would like to thank the staff of Bay Special Care, Brian's House and Dr. Ali and Staff for the exceptional care she has received these last few months. The funeral service will take place at 1:00 pm on Tuesday September 13, 2011 at the Calvary Mausoleum in Kawkawlin. Officiating will be Rev. Fr. Bill Gruden. Military Honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army and the Bay County Veterans Council. There will be no visitation at the Gephart Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Brian's House.
