Mr. Harold E. 'Harry' Schultz, of Bay City, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014, age 84. The son of the late Carl & Alma (Lutz) Schultz, he was born August 28, 1929 in Bay City. Harry was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and attended their school. He graduated from Bay City Central High School and then served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1949. Following his discharge from the service, Harry earned his Bachelors of Science in Education from Western Michigan University. He later went on to earn a Masters Degree from Michigan State University and a further degree at Central Michigan University. Harry taught for the Pontiac School System, married, and after working for Prentice Hall, he taught Driver's Education and History at Central High School. Harry loved teaching and inspired others to become teachers. Harry also served as an administrator with Bay City Schools, where he began the Evening Adult High School program at Central High School and Adult Basic Education. He also taught at and retired from T.L. Handy High School. He was known by many students as a Driver's Education teacher. Harry was one of the first members of Faith Lutheran Church, Bay City and worshipped at Zion Lutheran Church since 1967. He was also a member of "The Breakfast Boys." On November 28, 1953 Harry married the former Bernice H. Guoan at St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Essexville, and she survives his passing. Harry is also survived by a son, Rev. Ron (Christine) Schultz, Pastor of Zion Lutheran Church and School in Harbor Beach and their children, Sara Schultz, Bethany (Garet) Ellis and their daughter Norah, and Nathan Schultz; a daughter, Jan (Michael) Kleinsmith of Saratoga, CA and their children, Daniel, Asher, Anna and Selah Kleinsmith; and a son, Bob Schultz of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, Harry was also preceded in death by a son, Jerry Schultz in 1992; and his siblings: Matilda (Brown), Arline (Metevia), Helen (Wenzloff), Melvin Schultz and Raymond (Bud) Schultz. It was Harry's desire for cremation to take place. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church, his pastor, Rev. William H. Allwardt, officiating. Private inurnment will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. For those who so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Bay City.
