Hazel passed away Friday, September 8, 2023 at New Hope Valley with her family by her side at the age of 86. She was born September 9, 1936 in Holland, Michigan to the late Louis and Marie (Rookus) Rosendahl. Hazel was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a school teacher, and she also taught Sunday school, played in a church handbell choir, and was a member of the Freeland Garden Club. Hazel enjoyed making crafts and jewelry, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Hazel is survived by her husband, Eugene Groenhof, who she married August 18, 1962; two daughters, Lisa (Ricardo) Nava and Kristen (Lee) Ringel; five grandchildren, Stephanie Nava (Adam Stanfel), Katrina (Stefan) Josephson, Amanda (Shane) Hemphill, Matthew Ringel and Elizabeth Ringel; three great grandchildren, William Hemphill, Talia Josephson and Eleanor Hemphill; sister, Esther Hanson. In addition to her parents, Hazel is preceded in death by her sister, Mary Lou Veltman.
Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church in Bay City. Officiating will be Rev. Brenna Overland with interment following at Chapel Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gephart Funeral Home and on Friday, September 15, 2023 from 12 noon until the time of service at the church.
