Helen passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Plainview Assisted Living. Age 84 years. The daughter of the late Ernest and Frieda (Lutz) Kuch was born October 8, 1934 in Bay City, Michigan. Mrs. Grandy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Monitor where she was a member of the Ladies Aid, Sunday school teacher and a chairman for the harvest dinner. Helen was a farmer, 4-H program coordinator, employed at the Bay County Clerk's Office and was the tour director of Sunshine Senior Tours. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, puzzles, playing cards, spending winters in Texas, her HUGS support group and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Helen (Ohma) is survived by her three sons, Richard (Laia) Kernstock, Thomas (Julie) Kernstock, and Robert (Carla) Kernstock; one step son, George W. Grandy; nine grandchildren, Kathryn (Matthew) Shaffer, Chelsea (Jason) Fields, Michael Kernstock, Nicole (Eric) Marter, Alex (Amanda) Kernstock, Cassy (Ian) Harris, Kaylee (Bill) Rizor, Brian (Courtney) Kernstock and Jacob Kernstock; six great grandchildren; six step grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Sigrid Lutz and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence Kernstock; second husband, George Grandy and two sons, Herbert and W. Jake Kernstock.
Funeral and Committal services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Monitor. Officiating will be Rev. David F. Sherry with private interment following in Home Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mrs. Grandy will be taken to the church to lie in state on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to Trinity Monitor Athletic Association or the donor's favorite charity.
