Helen Peters

Helen Peters

On Saturday, June 23, 2018 Helen was called to eternal rest and reunited with her husband, Alfred. She was 97 years old. She was born to Victoria and Daniel Retzloff on 6/19/21 in Midland County and came to Bay City in 1928. Helen graduated from Central High School in 1939 and Bay City Business College in 1940. She married Alfred E Peters in 1946 and they spent 56 years together.
In 1950, Helen and Alfred became Charter Members of Faith Lutheran Church in Bay City where Helen served as Secretary of the Congregation and was involved in many of the church committees. Helen worked at CMS for 35 years, retiring in 1976 and then became a very active member of the Consumers Retirees Club.
She had been a board member of the Bay County Heart Assoc. and Professional Secretaries International.
Until recent years Helen immensely enjoyed spending spring and summers at her cottage in Big Bay, on Lake Superior. While there, she fished, picked berries, fed the ducks and seagulls and each morning sat on her deck to watch the sun rise over the water. The call of the loons in the evening brought her back to the beach where she made a fire and then watched the sun set over Lake Superior. She had many friends in Big Bay, often inviting them for meals or hot dog roasts on the sandy beach.
Left to cherish her memory are her dear friends, Joe and Paulette Gillman & their four children, Suzette Page (Mike), John Gillman (Kim), Jerrod Gillman (Jennifer), and Natalie Kinder (Brian) along with Elaina, Mitchell, Hayden and Frankie, the grandchildren whom Helen adored. Also surviving are cousin Joan and Bill Pyle, her friends, Gretta Monville, Phil and Kathleen Howay, Karrie Gatza, neighbors Marlene and Elaine who were so kind and attentive to her in her final years, and several nieces and nephews. We wish to acknowledge and thank Helen's caregivers who gave wonderful care and comfort to her.
Helen was predeceased by her husband, Alfred, her sister, Elsie Sledzinski, and brother Edwin Retzloff.   Helen's memorial will take place at Faith Lutheran Church on Wed., June 27, 2018. She will lie in state at 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Rev. Matthew Hall will officiate. Private Internment will be at Chapel Hill. Those wishing to honor Helen's memory may consider a contribution to Faith Lutheran Church, Big Bay Presbyterian Church or a charity of their choice.
