Herb passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Brian's House at the age of 82. Herb was born June 7, 1937 in Monitor Township. The son of the late Ernest and Clara (Lutz) Sturm. Herb spent many years in Florida while completing his career with the Army National Guard, retiring as a Lieutenant-Colonel. Herb was member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Loyal Order of the Moose, Bay City. Herb loved to dance. It wasn't a party if it wasn't a polka party!

On January 17, 1985, Herb was united in marriage to the former Kathryn (Nesbitt, Tobin) Sturm, who preceded him in death on July 26, 2013. Herb is survived by his children, Scott (Martha) Sturm, Terry Sturm, Keith (Tracey) Sturm, Michelle Sturm and James (Judith) Tobin, Peggy (Michael) Chaffin, John Tobin, Kitty (David) Shook and Robert Tobin, along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews and friends.

According to Herb's wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2019 at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Officiating will be Rev. Matt Hall followed by Military Honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council. Herb's family will greet visitors at the Gephart Funeral Home on Sunday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Brian's House, whom the family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for their compassionate care. The family would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to all the people at McLaren Hospice Services.
