Howard "Howie" B. Medlyn 86, loving husband, father and grandfather was called by our Lord on September 25, 2018. He lived a full, happy and blessed life. He was kind, considerate and always willing to lend a hand to help everyone. He was born January 21, 1932 to the late John Howard and Lillian Medlyn and grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. On October 6, 1956 he married his sweetheart, Janet Linton. Howie graduated from Sault St. Marie High School in 1951. In high school he was recruited by the coaches to play sports and was an outstanding athlete. His all around sportsmanship included Captain of the Football Team, Basketball, Track, Wrestling and Hockey. He made lifelong friendships and enjoyed the class reunions to reminisce and laugh. He joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country aboard the USS Intrepid Aircraft Carrier for 4 years. He worked for Dow Chemical in Midland for 30 years and was a good provider for his family. During retirement he and Janet loved camping, fishing, shooting pool, shuffleboard and playing a great game of euchre. He enjoyed all sports, whether participating or watching. He was a member of Kawkawlin Community Church. Howie had a positive outlook with everything that he did and inspired others to always do their best. He was kind hearted, giving and he has touched so many lives and will leave a lasting impression and many wonderful memories. He had great love for his family and especially his wife Janet who was the love of his life!
He is survived by his loving wife, Janet with 62 happy years of marriage; daughters Lorrie Lyn (Dan) Gibbs, Jan Marie (Mark) Rahn, Shellie Faye Medlyn; grandchildren, Erica Heinitz, Andrea (Corey) Wadlington and Keaton Rahn; great grandchildren, Gavin Bodo, and Blake, Lilly, and Ashlyn Wadlington; several nieces and nephews and many relatives and friends. His dedication to his family was remarkable.

Funeral and Committal services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 1, 2018 at the Kawkawlin Community Church. Officiating will be Pastor Aaron Knapp followed by military honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council. Private interment will take place at Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials cards for the Kawkawlin Community Church or the Toni & Trish House will be available at the funeral home.
