Mrs. Irene E. Pike, 89, of Auburn, Michigan, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, August 23, 2013. Irene was the daughter of the late Forrest and Grace (Simms) Wilson of New Mexico. Irene married Miles F. Pike on May 29, 1946. They just celebrated their 67th Anniversary with family and friends at the AUM Church. Her family will dearly miss her. Irene was a beautician for 30 years. Then for 10 years she was a Girl Scout District Representative for the Mitten Bay Region of the Girl Scouts. She was an active member of the Auburn United Methodist Church for 67 years. Irene was honored on May 19, 1986 as the Vern Gonyea Citizen of the Year of Auburn. Irene had a great talent for doing handwork. She created many beautiful knit, sewn or embroidered cross stitch items for family and friends which will be treasured heirlooms. Mrs. Pike is survived by her husband Miles; her sister Marian of Mims, Florida; a son Ronald (Sharon) Pike of Bay City, Michigan and three daughters, Cheryl (Douglas) Halvorsen of NJ, Andrea (William) Schymanski of Sanford, MI, and Diana (Gailord) Weeks of Fremont, MI. Irene has 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Irene instilled in her children the love of family. The Funeral Service for Irene will be held at the Auburn United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2013 followed by cremation. Officiating will be Rev. Duane M. Harris and Rev. Lawson D. Crane. Private inurnment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Family and friends will be received at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mrs. Pike will lie instate at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Auburn United Methodist Church Building Fund.
