Irma Ella (Lisius) Gies

Irma Ella (Lisius) Gies passed away October 18th, 2016 at home after a short illness at the age of 95. She was born to Edward and Nora Lisius in Hubbard, MI on March 1st, 1921. She was a devoted member of St. Bartholomew Ev. Lutheran Church. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend. Many lives were touched as she served as a Sunday school teacher for 25 years and a 4-H leader. Irma had a passion for gardening. She loved every vegetable and flower that ever grew in her garden. She delighted in her grandchildren and great grandchildren and they delighted in her abundant supply of cookies. A faithful letter writer to many; Irma was so grateful for every blessing in her life. Left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Lois (Mike) Gottleber, Barbara (Steve) Knapp Michael (Anne J.) Gies, Jane (LeRoy) Valley, Rene and Jamie Woods; eleven grandchildren, Mark Knapp, Amy Krager, Kristie Lenon, Tim Gies, Josh Gies, Michelle Passigetto, Jeff Gottleber, Heidi Schuitman, Jennie Gies, Andy Valley and Kurt Valley, 18 great grandchildren; her sisters, Elsie Dietlein and Esther Hempel; her sisters-in-law, Marion Lisius and Elaine Harrow. In addition to her parents and husband, Elmer Gies, she was also preceded in death by her son, Peter Gies; her brothers, Harold and Elmer Lisius. Her family would like to say thank you to the many workers from McLaren Hospice, her friends and Four Mile Road neighbors. The family will receive friends at Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday, October 21st, 2016 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at St. Bartholomew Ev. Lutheran Church in Kawkawlin on Saturday, October 22nd, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Larry Seafert will officiate with private interment in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Irma will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, consider memorials to St. Bartholomew in remembrance of Irma.
