Mrs. Irmgarde "Irma" A. (Jacques) Liss, of Bay City, passed away peacefully Friday morning, November 21, 2014 at Edgewood Assisted Living in Saginaw, age 93. The daughter of the late Emil and Dorothy (Meyer) Nitschke, she was born on October 26, 1921 in Bay City. Irma was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was Baptized in 1921 and Confirmed in 1935. She started and spearheaded the family apple orchard on Salzburg Road, "Jacques Orchard." Irma had a passion for cultivating apple trees and has passed down her knowledge to the rest of her family and their orchard in Hemlock. She spent many winters in Florida and enjoyed doing crafts. Mrs. Liss is survived by her son, Gary (Rose Ann) Jacques, Sr. of Hemlock; three grandchildren, Gary (Lynne) Jacques, Jr. of Hemlock, Jennifer (Michael) Miller of Battle Creek and Leanne Jacques of Holland; six great-grandchildren; her sister, Verna Rahn of Bay City; her sister-in-law, Marie Nitschke of Standish; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Irma was also preceded in death by her first husband, Wilfred J. Jacques in 1982; her second husband, Floyd M. Liss in 2008; and her brother, Shirley Nitschke. The Funeral Service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Rev. William H. Allwardt. Private interment will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.
