Schafer, Jack N. Bay City, Michigan Mr. Schafer passed away Wednesday evening, August 18, 2010 at St. Mary's Medical Center. Age 66 years. The son of the late Roland and Marjorie (Bligh) Schafer was born March 16, 1944 in Bay City. He was a member of New Life Missionary Church and a trustee. Mr. Schafer retired from G.M. Powertrain-Bay City Plant. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoyed reading, the computer, playing the Wii and enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of forty years the former Yvonne "Von" Durham whom he married February 27, 1970. Also surviving are two daughters and two son-in-laws: Deborah and Rick Zawacki and Kelly and Jason Crane, his grandchildren; Hydi, Larry, Jeremy, Jimmy, Sabrina, Billy, Niko and Janelle, eight great grandchildren, two sisters and one brother; Marion (Tom) Killingsworth, Thomas (Diane) Schafer and Muriel Martin, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one daughter; Melani Schafer, one brother; Larry Schafer and one sister; Harriet Moore. Funeral and committal services will take place Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at New Life Missionary Church. Officiating will be Rev. Jonathan Boyer with cremation following. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mr. Schafer will be taken to the church on Saturday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorial cards for New Life Missionary Church or the American Heart Association will be available at the funeral home.
