James "Jim" R. Burley

Burley, James R. "Jim" of Bay City, Michigan passed away Thursday, February 23, 2012 at St. Mary's of Michigan in Saginaw. Age 82 years. The son of the late Russell and Fern (Cuthbert) Burley was born July 2, 1929 in Bay City, Michigan and has resided here all of his life. Jim retired as an electrician, was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local 692, he enjoyed attending farm auctions and refinishing antique furniture. In 1947 he became a Golden Gloves boxing champion and served in the United States Army in 1951 and 1952 in Germany. On August 22, 1953 he married the former Joyce E. Lohr and she survives his passing along with six children and their spouses; Allan J. (Dawn) Burley, Kevin K. (Paula) Burley, Darlene A. (Kenneth) Martin, Curtis W. (Debby) Burley, Karen C. (Patrick) Burley-Draves and Jason A. (Vickie) Burley, 21 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; one brother; Gerald Burley and two sisters; Beverly Herber and Mary Jo Robb. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, one brother and three sisters; Norma West, Janice Young, John Burley and Judy Hovey. Funeral and Committal Services will take place Monday, February 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. 201 W. Midland St. Bay City, MI 48706. Officiating will be Rev. Debbie Thomas followed by Military Honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. and until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorial cards for the Carriage House of Bay City or St. Mary's Emerson House will be available at the funeral home.
