Jan K. Maes

Our loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend Jan passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Brian’s House with her family by her side at the age of 86. She was born In Bay City, Michigan on July 17, 1937 to the late Arthur and Helen (Kundinger) Arndt. Jan enjoyed going out to dinner with her sister Judy Nemode, going to the casino, playing cards, watching college football, gardening and painting. She loved Christmas and was an avid collector of hallmark ornaments and loved spending time with her family. Many will remember Jan as their nurse at Dr. Moeller/Dr. Hafford’s office in Essexville, Michigan.

Jan is survived by her daughter, Pam (Scott) Johnson; grandson, Matthew Johnson; nieces, Susan (Todd) Steffes and Betsy Nemode; great niece and nephew, Carly and Hunter; special family, Brad Francke, Debbie (Ron) Struble, Bruce (Leslie) Francke and Lori Grew. In addition to her parents, Jan is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald P. Maes; sister and brother-in law, Judy and James Nemode; in-laws, Millie and Jerry Maes; and special friends, Carol (Don) Francke, their daughter Jill Francke and their daughter-in-law, Cathy Francke.

At the request of Jan, cremation has taken place a memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Gephart Funeral Home. Officiating will be Larry Jacobs. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be considered to the Helen Nickless Foundation, Brian’s House or to the Angel Pet Fund.
