Jeanette Cecelia (Slezak) Simon, age 85, passed away on April 4, 2012 at the Carriage House in Bay City, MI, surrounded by her family. Jeanette was born November 7, 1926 in Bay City to the late Frank and Sophie Slezak. She was a lifelong resident of the Bay City area, graduating from Bay City Central High School. On September 4, 1948, she married William Simon and he survives her passing. During more than 60 years of marriage, Jeanette and Bill raised five children. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Upon retirement, Jeanette and Bill moved "up north" and were active members of St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Prescott, Jeanette and Bill moved back to Bay City in early 90's, and were members of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and she volunteered for several years at the St. Vincent de Paul thrift shop there. She was also a member of K of C # 414 Auxiliary. Jeannette was an avid reader and bingo player, and was known for playing 24 bingo cards at once. A talented crafter, her children and grandchildren have several ceramic pieces that have been part of their holiday decorations for years. Jeanette was an excellent cook, cooking for several church functions over the years, and was known for her meatballs and dinner rolls. She was a doting "Busia" who always had a fresh batch of peanut butter cookies in the cookie jar for her grandchildren, and was always happy to take them down to the dock at the lake to feed the fish and play card games. Jeanette is survived by her husband, Bill, of Bay City; children, James (Carmen) Simon of Caledonia; Robert (Marie) Simon of Bay City; Kathleen (Arthur) Sigsworth of Midland; Daniel (Kay) Simon of Essexville and Christopher (special friend Pauline) Simon of Essexville; grandchildren, Anne (Brian) Kostus; Carey (Mark) Grund and David Simon; Jennifer and Adam Sigsworth; Erica (Frank) Wilke, Whitney (Kirk) Ross and Jaime Simon; and Kristy (Chris) O'Malley and Bill Simon; Angela (Dave) Van Nostrand and Jeff Smith; sister, Dorothy (Slezak) Tithof, and several nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Jeanette was predeceased by her brother, Telly Slezak; sisters, Irene (Slezak) Dansereau and Romaine (Slezak) Birch; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Sigsworth. Jeanette's family wishes to thank the staff of the Carriage House for their loving care, compassion and support, particularly during the last few weeks of her life. The Funeral Liturgy and Rite of Committal will take place Tuesday April 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Richard M. Filary with private Entombment in St. Stanislaus Mausoleum. The family will be present at the church to receive visitors on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. and until the time of the Mass. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are encouraged to consider a memorial to St. Vincent de Paul Society.
