Jerald J. Newcombe, of Bay City, passed away Monday, March 14, 2011 at Brian's House, age 93 years. The son of the late Lee and Lydia (Simmons) Newcombe, he was born December 22, 1917 in Bay City and has resided here all of his life. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a life member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #88. Jerald retired from Prudential Life Insurance Co. as an agent-sales manager and tuned piano's for Herter Music Company. Mr. Newcombe served with the United States Army Air Force during WW II. He enjoyed music, golfing, traveling, crossword puzzles and most of all spending time with his family. Jerald is survived by his two children, Scott (Doreen) Newcombe of Bay City and Margo (John) McGinnis of Grand Blanc; six grandchildren, John (Joanne) McGinnis, Lee (Jennifer) Newcombe Jerry (Dana Woodward) McGinnis, Mary Ann (Drew Stewart) McGinnis, Kendra (Jay) Bath and Jeanine (Ryan) Cull; eleven great-grandchildren, Ryan, Jordan, Grace, Olivia, Abigail, Carter, Elena, Benjamin, Gabrielle, Braden and Gillian; brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter 'Budge' (Ruth) Schrader, Jean Coluccio, Bill (Lee) Schrader, Mary Ann Heard and Don (Gwen) Schrader; special friends, Flora Laidman, Phil and June Herter, Karen Quinn, Brewster and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years Florence Z. (Schrader) Newcombe on March 5, 2011, his parents Lee and Lydia and three brothers Frank, Ray and Lawrence Jerald was a true gentleman with a great sense of humor who loved and cherished his family. At the request of Mr. Newcombe, cremation has taken place. A Private Family Memorial Service was held at the First United Methodist Church. Officiating was Rev. Anthony N. Cutting. Private inurnment will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be available at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. for First United Methodist Church or Brian's House .
