Our loving husband, father, grandfather passed away Monday, March 31, 2014 at McLaren Bay Region with his family at his side. Age 79 years. He was born November 4, 1934 in Bay City and had resided in this area until moving to Rose City, MI. Jerry retired from Saginaw General Hospital as a boiler operator and was a past member of Bay City Bowman's Club. He had a great love for the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, woodworking, enjoyed spending time with his family and most of all he cherished being a grandfather.
On April 23, 1955 he married his wife of fifty eight years, the former Shirley A. Dennis in St. Boniface Catholic Church in Bay City and she survives his passing along with three sons and three daughters-in-law; Jerry A. and Connie Witzke, Steven M. and Cheryl Witzke and Robert J. and Janet Witzke, one daughter and son-in-law; Joycelynn M. "Joy" and Randy Lednicky, eleven grandchildren; Jarrod (Amy), Marcus (Onika), Kathleen (Daniel), Kyle, Michael (Christine), Kelly (Justin), Robert, Joseph, Patrick, Aaron (Ingeborg), Ashlee (Jesse), nine great grandchildren and the family is expecting the tenth great grandchild, one sister; Barbara Mehnert, two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law; Grant and Shirley Dennis and Joanne and Jim Braun and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister; Elizabeth Weber and one grandson; Eric.
The Witzke family would like to extend a special thank you to the manor nursing staff at the Carriage House of Bay City for the kind and loving care they extended to Jerry during the time they cared for him.
The family will gather at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday April 3, 2014 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. His son-in-law Randy Lednicky will honor Jerry's life with a Eulogy at 6:00 p.m. Thursday during the visitation. At the request of Mr. Witzke cremation has taken place at the Sunset Valley Crematory. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a memorial to the American Cancer Society.
