Barrett, Joan Ellen of Bay City, Michigan passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning January 31, 2012 at home with her family at her side at the age 79 years. The daughter of the late Emmett J. and Alice (Orr) Foley was born August 4, 1932 in Bay City and has resided here all of her life. On July 7, 1956 she married Robert G. Barrett and he preceded her in death on March 19, 2000. She was also preceded in death by one sister; Patricia Browning. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, past member of the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce and past leader of the Junior Achievements. She retired from First of America Bank, was an avid golfer and most of all she enjoyed traveling with her family. She is survived by five children; Kevin R. Barrett, Karen J. Barrett-Girardot, Kristy A. and Ernest Rahn, Patrick J. and Sandra Barrett and Kathleen E. Barrett, seven grandchildren; Ryan Rahn and Fiancée Megan Eigner, Brooke Rahn-Getty and her husband Elijah, Cayla Girardot, Blake Barrett, Alexander Barrett, Tiffany Barrett and Elisa Barrett, four great grandchildren; Madelynne, Maddix, Jayden and Eliana, one brother and three sisters; Michael and Margie Foley, Kathleen and Frederick Fortsch, Mary Alice Monti and Lillian Foley, an abundant number of special nieces and nephews, her special friends; "The Fruit Group" and her dog; Spanky. The Barrett family would like to extend a special thank you to McLaren Hospice for the warm and loving care they extended to Mrs. Barrett during the time they cared for her. The Funeral Liturgy will be Celebrated Friday, February 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Craig L. Albrecht with private inurnment in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Thursday from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by The Vigil For The Deceased at 7:00 p.m. at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Mrs. Barrett will be taken to the church on Friday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. and until the time of services. For those planning an expression of sympathy the family ask for memorials to be considered to the "Wishes of the Family" for a memorial to be established at a later time in her memory.
