Joanne M. Stevens

Stevens, Joanne M. (nee Toensing), child of God, passed away on August 20, at age 68 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Joanne was preceded in death by parents Carl and Wilhelmina Toensing and husband, Donald. She is survived by sister, Carol of White Bear Lake, MN, stepsons, Rev. David (Leesl) Stevens and their daughter, Bethany, and Jon (Brianna) Stevens and their son, Gus. Also survived by the staff at St. Paul Lutheran School, many loving relatives and special and close friends. Special thanks to the staff at Bay Special Care for their compassionate care. Joanne graduated from Concordia College, St. Paul, MN in 1967 and spent her entire career teaching 1-2 graders at St. Paul Lutheran School- Frankenlust. She also served as organist and directed several choirs. Funeral Services will take place Sunday, August 25, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust. Officiating will be Rev. Paul D. Theiss with interment following in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday August 24, 2013 from 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 pm at Gephart Funeral Home 201 W. Midland. Joanne will be taken to the church on Sunday to lie in state from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Carl L and Wilhelmina Scholarship Fund at Concordia University 1282 Concordia Ave. St.Paul, MN 55104 or to the Music Ministry of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
