John D. Johnston

John passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023 at McLaren Bay Region at the age of 75. The son of the late Roy and Eleanore (Schweitzer) Johnston was born December 17, 1947 in Oakland, California. John was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, was retired from Simplex Grinnell/Johnson Control and was a past commander at the Amvets Post 22. He loved doing genealogy, he was very crafty and a jack of all trades, enjoyed traveling, playing cards and playing his guitar, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife, the former Sandra Bell, whom he married on January 12, 1980; two daughter, Nicole (Josh) Tuzas and Trisha (Kyle) Meinhard; five grandchildren, Asher, Harrison, Eleanor, William and Deborah, step sister, Glennda Pinkerman; two step brothers, Dan (Cheri) Rivet and Randy Rivet; two sisters-in-law, Kathy (Dennis) Spiekerman and Mary Bell and two brothers-in-law, Jack Tackebury and Greg Tacey. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Laura Lugo and Shirley Ortiz; niece, Roshelle Sevilla; step Father, Glen Rivet; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Tackebury and Judy Tacey; brother-in-law, Buzz Bell and his mother and father-in-law, Donald and Marie Bell.

A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, followed by military honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council. Visitation will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Friday, September 8, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Private inurnment will take place at a later date in Great Lakes National Cemetery. Memorial cards for the wishes of the family will be available at the church.
