John Charles Karnath Jr.

Mr. John Charles "Trapper John" Karnath, Jr., of Bay City, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013 at McLaren Bay Regional Hospital. Age 73 years. He was born on April 23, 1940 in Bay City to John and Marge (Simpson) Karnath, who have predeceased him, along with his son-in-law, Doug, and niece, Kim. He is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn (VanHoost) Karnath. Also mourning his passing are his sister, Bonnie (John) Piccolo and his brother, Tom (Cherrie) Karnath. Trapper also leaves behind two daughters, Sheri (Karnath) Kuch and Tina Karnath; one son, Jeremy Karnath; one granddaughter, Cadence Karnath; a step-daughter, Jenna Golden; and four step-grandsons, Mike, Joe, Ben and Jack. Trapper also leaves behind two nieces: Jean Marie and Margie; two nephews: Doug and Adam, cousins, and many, many friends, including a special life-time friend, Bob Hompstead. Trapper married Jackie on January 20, 1995 and they celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary this year. Trapper served in the Navy Reserves and then the Army. He worked many jobs during his lifetime: Coca-Cola bottling, General Motors, The Horseshoe Inn, The KC Hall, Phil's Bar, The Center Road Bar, until he established his own bar, Trapper John's Inn in Unionville. Trapper served his friends for over 25 years, before his recent retirement. As per Trapper's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Gateway Sportsman Club, 4126 M-25 in Unionville, MI.
