John S. Wesolek, of Bay City, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 8, 2017 at the age of 62. He was born on June 25, 1954 in Bay City. John attended Bay City West Catholic until its closure, and then graduated from John Glenn High School. He accepted a football scholarship at Alma College, where he played for two years. John then transferred to Saginaw Valley State College to finish his Bachelors of Science and was a member of the colleges' first football team. He went on to earn a Master of Science in physical education and exercise science from Michigan State University. John was the Defensive Line Coordinator for SVSU Cardinal Football for many years, and in 2003 helped lead his team to an undefeated GLIAC Championship, earning a spot as a Division II National Quarter Finalist. He was currently an adjunct professor at both Delta College and SVSU. John was an avid cyclist and loved spending time with his family.
John is survived by his two daughters, Karen Mae Wesolek of Grand Rapids and Katie Lynn Wesolek-Dutcher of Bay City; his beloved grandchildren, Mazzie Mae Dutcher and Sullivan Chaos Dutcher; his mother, Gloria W. Dirla; and his six siblings, Jessica, Bill Jr., Andy, Bob, Chris and Cassie. John was preceded in death by his father, William G. Wesolek, Sr.
