John G. Young

John G. Young, age 90 years died on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Heartland Health Care Hampton. He was born to John and Catherine (O'Neill) Young on April 26, 1923 in Bay City, where he resided most of his life. John was married to Georgia C. (Kennedy) Young on November 3rd 1951 in Ludington, MI and celebrated 62 wonderful years of marriage. John served in WW II as a United States Marine in the 1st Marine Corps Division fighting in the Pacific campaign of battles in Cape Gloucester, Pelaliu-Palau Islands, New Guinea-New Britain and Okinawa - Ayukyu Islands. John was a wealth of knowledge, his family's encyclopedia and a master of the English language. He was a retired educator, having worked more than 25 years as a counselor, teacher and coach for the Saginaw and Bay City school systems. John loved sports and in his youth participated in the Golden Gloves Boxing tournaments, football and in later life played blooper ball in the church leagues. John loved his family and they enjoyed many adventures and travels from: summer camping trips throughout the US and later in retirement with trips to Ireland, England, Greece, Turkey, Canary Islands and California. John is survived by his wife Georgia C. Young and his five children, Margaret Kay (Jim) McPhee of Hemlock, MI, Barbara Lynn Gilson of Bay City, John G. (Alice) Young of Gilroy, CA, Deborah Ann (Kurt) Fogelsonger of Tawas, MI, Angela Clare Young of Bay City; his sister Grace DeCorte of Bay City; his nieces and nephews, his fourteen grandchildren ( Geneve, Devon, Brianne, Andrew, Tracer, Dusty, Paige, Cody, Lane, Amber, Kelyn, Karly, Forrest, Bridger); and twelve great-grandchildren. The Funeral Liturgy and Rite of Committal will be celebrated on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. James R. Carlson followed by Military Honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council. Private inurnment will take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mr. Young will be taken to the church on Monday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be directed to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or the National Marine Corp Museum
