Mr. Joseph R. Wongrowski, of Bay City, passed away early Tuesday morning, May 23, 2017 at The Carriage House of Bay City, age 88. The son of the late Sylvester and Agnes (Michalski) Wongrowski, he was born on October 20, 1928 in Jackson, Michigan. Joe served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Bay City Chevrolet and then spent 25 years in Florida. Joe was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish. He was an avid sports fan his entire life. Joe playing blooper ball and coaching basketball at St. Stan's grade school for many years.
On August 22, 1953 Joe married the former Romaine Wieszczecinski and she survives him along with their son, Mark Wongrowski; a sister, Dolores (Ron) Trombley; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Joe was also preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia (George) Klosowski and Clara Wongrowski.
The Memorial Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017 at Our Lady of Peace Parish. The Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Patrick M. Jankowiak followed by Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Army and the Bay County Veterans Council. Private interment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. The family will greet friends at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gephart Funeral Home.
