Katherine R. "Kay" Blackburn

Katherine (Kay, Nana), age 96, passed away peacefully at her daughter Sharon's home on July 25, 2020.  The daughter of the late Ernest and Gladys (Robinson) Hausbeck was born on December 8, 1923 in Bay City, Michigan where she resided her entire life. She married Alcide(Al) Blackburn on November 21, 1942 and he predeceased her in June 1994 after 51 years of marriage. She is survived by her two daughters Kayleen (Larry) LaLonde, and Sharon (Jerry) Reder. Also surviving her are grandchildren Chris(Anne) Reder, Tamera (David) Reder,  Ryan(Carol) LaLonde, Scott (Megan) LaLonde, Marc (Rebecca) Reder; great grandchildren Logan Reder, Sierra, Sophia, Sean LaLonde, Joey Wolfe, Nicole and Emily Wolfe. Several nieces and nephews survive her. She was predeceased by a brother Orland Hausbeck, and several sisters in laws and brothers in law.

Kay had countless friends who have passed away. Whether it was square dancing, sewing club, camping, or just eating together they never stopped laughing. Left to carry on the "Nana" love are her best friend for life Vivian Dobrinski and later in life her special Domino crew. She also had a special friend Leo Howell the last few years.

She was a long time member of the former Visitation church and many hours were spent there or in the school. Kay had many years working for Evenknit, Kahn's Jewelry, and finally the mailroom at Bay Medical Center. She even had a stint at the A&W as a carhop as a girl. Her and husband Al were able to winter several years in St. Cloud, Florida. She loved to read, camp, sew, basket make, and play Dominoes. Most of all she loved being Nana to all her kids. A special thank you extends to her daughter Sharon for caring for Kay in her home. Kay's family would like to thank and appreciate McLaren Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.

Celebration of her life will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Corpus Christi Parish. Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Kelm. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass at Corpus Christi Parish.  During this trying time face coverings must be worn and must still use appropriate social distancing. Kay would have loved a party but we just can't do that for now. Private interment for the family will follow at Floral Gardens. For those wishing an expression of sympathy, envelopes for McLaren Hospice or family wishes will be available at the church.

Mom, you left a legacy of faith and love. We will do our best to carry it on. We love you beautiful lady. Lovingly, your daughters Kayleen and Sharon.
