Lapan, Kenneth L., Prescott, MI, formerly of Bay City, passed away Tuesday May 31, 2011 in Prescott, Michigan . Age 87. The son of the late Leo & Beatrice (Gregory) Lapan was born December 3, 1923 in Bay City. Ken was a life member of the Carpenters Local. He served with the US Navy during WWII and was a member of A.M.V.E.T.S. Post #22, the American Legion Post #18 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1190 of Secord Lake. Ken enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing. On October 26, 1946 he was united in marriage to the former Margaret P. Lynch by Msgr. DeQuoy and she preceded him death on January 2, 2008. Mr. Lapan is survived by five children, Carol (Tim) Hunt of Saginaw, Larry (Debra) Lapan of Wyandotte, Sharyn (Richard 'Duke') Schneider of Rose City, Debra Coeur of Skidway Lake and Thomas (Rebecca) LaPan of Bay City; 17 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Theodore 'Sonny' Lapan of Pinconning; sister-in-law, Betty Schultz of Bay City; and his nieces and nephews. Ken was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jack Coeur; sister, Evelyn Jansen; nephew, Alfred 'A.J.' Jansen; sister-in-law, Beatrice Hamlin; and three brothers-in-law, Ken and Bob Hamlin and Joe Schultz. The funeral service will take place at 10:00am on Thursday June 2, 2011 at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Officiating will be Rev. Fr. Richard Jozwiak with interment in Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 to 9:00pm and on Thursday from 9:00am until time of service. There will be a Clover Leaf Ceremony conducted by the AM Vets post 22 at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening followed by a Rosary Service.
