LaVern D. Shurkey

Mr. Shurkey passed away on Friday, January 17, 2020 at Brian's House. Age 87 years. The son of the late Jesse and Freana (Brisson) Shurkey was born May 12, 1932 in Bay City, Michigan. Mr. Shurkey enjoyed camping, the outdoors and tinkering in his garage.
Mr. Shurkey is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Lee) Deary; four grandchildren, Lisa Butterfield, Lana (Jr.) Richardson, Ed Charbonneau and Lee "Turk" (Stacy) Deary; seven great grandchildren, Trevor, Austin (Ashley), Malerie, Bradd, Lee III, Masen and Emily; two special nieces, Diane and Michelle; many other nieces and nephews; his furry friend, Miss Kitty and his special friends, Dee Pelletier, Sue and Jerry Cousins and Jr. and Sharon Schumacker. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Shurkey; daughter, Linda Moltane and was the last of 14 children, which included six brothers and seven sisters.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at McLaren Bay Region and Brian's House, especially Michelle from McLaren Visiting Nurse.
At the request of Mr. Shurkey his body was donated to the University of Michigan Anatomical Donation Program. A memorial service will take place at a later date. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to Brian's House.
