Leona passed away Monday, December 9, 2024 at Brian’s House with her family by her side at the age of 91. The daughter to the late Michael and Wilhemina Reiss was born November 1, 1933 in Freeland, Michigan.

Leona was a devoted and active member of Saint Bartholomew E.V. Lutheran Church, where she contributed significantly to her community. She served as the secretary of her AAL, was involved with the Ladies Aid, and took on the role of Lutheran Girls Pioneer Leader, exemplifying her dedication to both her faith and her community.

Her interests and hobbies painted a picture of a vibrant and engaged individual. Leona had an unparalleled love for gardening, where she found joy in nurturing plants and flowers. She also enjoyed bowling and had a talent for baking and crafting, particularly ceramics, floral arrangements and attending Shipshewana. Leona was known for her enthusiasm in throwing memorable parties, bringing together friends and family in joyful celebration. Her love for animals was evident, reflecting her compassionate nature. Those who crossed paths with Leona will fondly remember her as a person who never saw a garage sale she could resist, often turning a simple outing into a treasure hunt for hidden gems. Family was at the heart of Leona's life. Alongside her husband, Harlan, she demonstrated a deep commitment to helping those in need, showcasing their shared values and charitable spirit.

Leona is survived by her four children and their spouses; Gene (Barbara) Eisenman of Dearborn, MI, Rick (Valerie) Eisenman of Kawkawlin, Cindy Howell of Kawkawlin (Randy Howell of Nevada) and Brenda (Kirk) Birkenheier of Fishers, IN; Craig Bauer of Bay City and Ted Gorkowski of Auburn who were like sons, three grandchildren, Harmony (Landon) Martin of Collegedale, TN, Scott (Jennifer Wright) Howell of Bay City and Mark (Elizabeth) Eisenman of Chicago, IL; four step grandchildren, Mark, Joseph, Thomas and Luke Martin; great grandchildren; Zoe, Tate and Finlay Martin, and Hunter Howell; great great grandchildren, Daisy Thorn Howell and Ellis Grey Howell; sister, Caroline Behmlander and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Harlan Eisenman; and 15 siblings.

At the request of Leona, cremation has taken place and a private inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be considered to St. Bartholomew Church Building Fund or Brian’s House.
