Eickel, Leonard Arlen Bay City, Michigan Leonard Arlen Eickel, age 79, passed away Friday, April 13, 2012 at Select Specialty Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan. He was born in Corning, Ohio on January 18, 1933 to the late Leonard "Turk" and Lily (Mace) Eickel. On October 9, 1954 he married the former Marjorie Baugh, she preceded him in death on December 26, 1960. On May 19, 1962 he married the former Dorothy Yost. She survives him after 49 - 11/12 years of marriage with four children: Steven (Renee) Eickel, Kim (Joe) Shotwell, Linda (Rick) Stein, Brian (Carolyn) Eickel; grandchildren, Chad, Laura, Zachary and Ian Eickel, Casey, Ryan and Megan Stein, Timothy (Angela) Shotwell, Rachelle (Kane) Anderson; five great grandchildren, Ema and Luke Shotwell, Madison Fischer, Allie and Avery Anderson. Also surviving are three sisters, Betty (Wm) Murphy, Karen (John) Worden, Gayle (Mark) Wood; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Theodore and Janet Metiva, sister-in-law, Geraldine Miller. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Margaret Baugh, brother-in-law, Gene Miller, sister-in-law, Virginia Yost, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Guy and Lillie Baugh and Emma Yost and many nieces and nephews. He was a long time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, also a member for 34 years of the American Legion Post 18. Leonard was a Bay City Firefighter for 31 years, retiring in 1990. He worked part time for Bay Landscaping for 23 years. He served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956. He loved his 1954 Farm All Tractor and giving grandkids and neighbor kids rides. He played City League and Church League basketball. Leonard loved playing golf and got a hole in one on the 17Th hole at Maple Leaf on July 30, 1981. He enjoyed his vacation group, birthday club and teaching his four children how to sail. At the request of Mr. Eickel cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be Rev. Matthew Schramm. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, April 16, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. and until the time of services. A Committal service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Floral Gardens Cemetery under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans Council. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post 18, Saginaw Bay Community Sailing Association or the donor's favorite charity.
