Leonard passed away unexpectedly early Saturday morning, May 24, 2014 at McLaren Bay Region. Age 83 years. The son of the late Earl and Leona (Goulet) Furtaw was born March 27, 1931 in Bay City, MI and has been a lifelong resident. Leonard was a member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church. He retired form Borden Dairy as a truck driver. In in his spare time he was a singer in a band, enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards, shuffleboard and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. Left behind to cherish his memory are seven children and their spouses; John Furtaw, Jodi (David) Turgeon, Jim (Kim) Furtaw, Joe (his fiancée; Corey Miller) Furtaw, Leann (Larry) Kerkau, Shelley (Paul Bailey) Smith and Kelley (Tony) Hartsfield, his grandchildren, great grandchildren, one brother and sister-in-law; Raymond and Joyce Furtaw. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife; Madilyn M. (Jones) Furtaw whom he married October 30, 1954 and she passed away on October 23, 2013 and one daughter; Cindy L. Furtaw. Funeral and Committal services will take place on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, 1010 33rd Street Bay City, Michigan 48708. Officiating will be Pastor Joel Pankow with private interment following in Green Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. Leonard will be taken to the church on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. and until the time of service.
