Lois Jean Roach

Lois J. Roach (Lefler) passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Covenant Healthcare - Cooper in the presence of her loving family. Lois was born on January 10, 1934 in Bay City to the late Clifford and Lena (Constantino) Lefler. She graduated from T.L. Handy High School in 1952 and went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in education at Michigan State University. Lois taught school in the Oscoda school system for 38 years before retiring. She then moved to St. Ignace and continued substitute teaching until she was 82 years old. During her 55 years of teaching she educated and touched the hearts of so many children. Her teaching career spanned the lives of multi-generations of the children over the years. Lois loved to sail, ride bikes and work with the public. She spent many years on Mackinaw Island putting thousands of miles on her bike and thousands of smiles on so many people's faces. She spent many years with her children and grandchildren out on the island giving all of them tours and sharing the history of the island with them. She will be missed very much by her family and by everyone that ever had the pleasure of her acquaintance. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard Roach; her beloved brother, James Lefler who passed away on October 22, 2017. Lois is survived by her children, Roy Roach, Robert Roach and Cathy Sprowl; grandchildren, Roy Roach, Rychel Roach, Matthew Birdsey, Tyler Roach and Ryan Roach; great grandchildren, Zachary Birdsey, Dylan Birdsey and Steven Parrott.
