Lorraine passed away peacefully Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the age of 86 years, with her family by her side. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish-St. Vincent de Paul Church. Lorraine graduated from Ss. Peter & Paul High School in Saginaw in 1949 where she was also the Midget Ball Queen in 1949. She owned and operated her own cleaning business. Lorraine wrote many songs and one she recorded was named "Where were you" and "Just around the Corner". She loved gardening, bingo and spending time with her family and friends.
Left behind to cherish her memories are one daughter, Debra L. Smith of Bay City; three sons, Timothy P. (Mary) Briggs of Kawkawlin; Lawrence T. (Vicky) Briggs III of Bay City and Steven M. (Robin) Briggs of Auburn; seven grandchildren, Lorraine (fiancée, Korey Foerster) Smith and Jennifer Smith all of Bay City, Joan (Joey) Benson of Jacksonville, FL, Stephanie (her (fiancée George Houston) Machulis of Lawrenceville, GA, Jeffrey (Jeremy) Keeley-Briggs of Saginaw; Steven II and Tyler Briggs of Bay City; eight great grandchildren; one very special grandson Perseus Foerster; one brother-in-law, Clarence Zdrojkowski of Saginaw; one sister-in-law, Joyce Rasdorf of Bay City; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence T. Briggs II; her mother, Marie Riley; her father, Patrick Riley; mother-in-law, Lillian Klida; father-in-law's, Pete Klida and Lawrence Briggs; one grandson, Timothy Briggs; three brothers, Vincent, Kenneth and Eugene Riley; one sister, Mary Jane Zdrojowski; one sister-in-law, Christine Riley. The family would like to extend a special Thank you to the staff at the Carriage House, especially Gwen Bills and the staff of McLaren Hospice especially, Becky and two special caregivers, Debra and Jennifer Smith.
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Parish-St. Vincent de Paul Church. The celebrant will be Rev. Fr. John Sarge with the Rite of Committal following in St. Andrew's Cemetery in Saginaw. The family will be present at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday to receive family and friends from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. and the Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Lorraine will be taken to the church on Wednesday to lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.
