Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Bay Valley House Assisted Living, Bay City, MI, at age 93.
Lucille was born on December 30, 1929 in Bay City, MI to the late Henry G. and Lydia M. (Weiss) Kolb. She married Arthur A. Crook on January 10,1948 at St. John Lutheran Church, Bay City, MI. Art passed away on October 4, 1999, a year after they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Lue worked at Sears in Bay City for several years after her children were all in school. She was very active in the local TOPS group, earning her KOPS status and being the official weigher for many years. In 1970, Lue decided to finish her High School diploma and enrolled in a program through Delta College. She graduated the same year as her son, Marty. Lucille was a faithful blood donor for years. Lue was a talented person and excelled as a baker, cook, candy maker and kept an immaculate home. She made artistic ceramic pieces and her yard was always beautiful. She crocheted lovely afghans and baby blankets over the years. Her family was most important to her. She called Jesus her good friend throughout her life time.
Lucille is survived by four children: Karan Schwarz, Martin (Susan) Crook, Jeffery Crook and Bruce (Mary) Crook. She has 8 grandchildren: Matt Crook, Brian (Anna) Crook, Sr., Jason Hemstreet, Sarah Hemstreet (Ryan) Gwizdala, Adam P. (Jodi) Crook, Lisa Hemstreet (Brennan) Beechum, Monica (Josh Johnson) Crook and Adam B. (Shelby Priester) Crook. She leaves 13 great-grandchildren: Matthew (Amie) Ras, Jacob Crook, Brian M Crook Jr., Allison Crook, Bella Glazier, Evan Crook, Drake Crook, Austin Gwizdala, Allyson Gwizdala, Nash Crook, Lucas Johnson, Ozzy Crook and Cru Beechum, and one great-great granddaughter, Lillian M. Ras. Lue also leaves her sister Maxine Kolb (Jerry) DeFrain and sisters in law, Glenda (Bob) Crook Johnson and Ellie (Larry) Crook, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Lue was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Lydia Kolb; her brothers, Warren (Tillie) Kolb and Gilbert Kolb; sister, Dorothy Kolb (Sam) Franklin; a great-granddaughter, Hannah D Crook; father and mother-in-law, Arthur James Crook and Amanda M. Kipfmiller Crook, as well as Art’s siblings: Del (Gretchen) Crook, Sr., Maurice (Delores) Crook, Bob Crook, Ron (Mary Ann) Crook, Donna Crook (Clare) Gerstacker, Larry Crook and Darlean Crook (Don) Meyer.
The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to Karen, owner of Bay Valley House Assisted Living, and the entire staff, where Lue resided since 2017 and received excellent care. A special acknowledgement goes to her outstanding staff, Holly, Sarah and Jen. She also received excellent care from Nicole, RN and Nicole, her aide, of The Care Team Hospice program. Thank you all for your love and support.
Funeral service for Lue will take place on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 510 Ivy St., Bay City, MI 48706, with a private interment to follow at Floral Gardens Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Phillip Baerwolf. The family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Zion Lutheran Church or the Bay County Humane Society.
