Lydia passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at McLaren Bay Region. Age 98 years. The daughter of the late William and Mary (Pfund) Quintel was born August 23, 1919 in Auburn, Michigan. Lydia was retired from Bay Medical Center as a R.N. after 42 years of service.

Lydia is survived by one daughter, Beth (Gilbert) Smith and her husband Darrel; five grandchildren, William (Carole) Gilbert, Cheryl Gilbert, Julie (Michael) Daenzer, Matthew (Manisha) Smith and Brad (Aimee) Smith; five great grandchildren, Zachary, Alexia, Dillon, Annika and Elliott; one brother, Norman Quintel; one sister, Hulda Weiss; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Gilbert and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her first husband, William H. Gilbert; second husband, Leonard J. Nowak; third husband, Arthur Kunstman; one son, William H. Gilbert Jr. and many brothers and sisters.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Sheffield Bay Memory Care and McLaren Bay Region Ortho 6Th Floor for their compassion and care.

At the request of the family a private interment will take place at Floral Gardens Cemetery and there will be no services or viewing at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission.
