Lynn Michael Barber Bay City, Michigan Lynn passed away at home on January 12, 2024 surrounded by his family and his dog Diego by his side. He was just shy of his 86th birthday. He was born to the late Floyd and Ada (McMann) Barber on January 24,1938. Lynn and his late brother Lyle were the first set of twins born in Bay City in 1938. Lynn went to T. L. Handy High School and then enlisted in the Army. He retired from the Operators union local 324 in 2001. He had a strong work ethic, enjoyed restoring antique vehicles, racing motorcycles (which he received many trophies), attending car shows, watching Nascar or football, spending time with his family, going to his grandson’s baseball games and his nephews’ races. He loved riding around the yard on his tractor and sitting on his back porch with his wife and dog listening to music and birdwatching.
Lynn told many stories of drag racing in his Corvette down Woodward Avenue in Detroit. It is there that he met his soul mate Velma Altergott. They were united in marriage on July 1, 1965. She survives him along with their 3 children. Michelle (Michael) Goik, Jennifer (Jonathan) Charters and Randy Barber (fiancé Tiffiny). Grandchildren Conner and Callie VanMullekom, Gavin and Sophie Goik, Claudia and Amelia Barber and Sawyer Eager. Sister Marilyn Charbonneau, Sister-in-law Debbie Altergott and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he will be reunited with his twin brother Lyle Barber, sister-in-law Valerie Barber, brother Terry Barber, sister-in-law Virginia Barber, brothers in law Wesley and David Altergott and his 1st grandson Taylor Goik whom he had a special bond with. Lynn was loved and admired by many and will be deeply missed.
Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Gephart Funeral Home with private burial at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, January 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Gephart Funeral Home.
