Mr. Manfred G. Nitschmann, of Bay City, passed away December 12, 2013 at his residence, age 79. The son of the late Paul & Helene (Christoph) Nitschmann, he was born August 21, 1934 in Zinten, Germany. Manfred moved to the United States in 1952. He served with the U.S. Army. Manfred played soccer with the Bay City Kickers Soccer Club. He was a millwright with General Motors for many years and retired from Malleable Iron Plant in Saginaw. Mr. Nitschmann is survived by his wife, the former Elfriede Kolm; their children, Heidi M. (Don) Moritz of Troy, Ohio and Rudi A. (Kelly) Nitschmann of Bay City; five grandchildren, Justin, Alex and Lauren Moritz and Brady and Natalie Nitschmann; a brother, Armin (Margaret) Nitschmann and their son Peter and his family of Germany; a sister, Doris (Bernd) Ludwig and their son Uwe and his family of Germany; two sisters-in-law, Brigitte (Duane) Polack of Wisconsin and Johanna (Ron) VanMullekom of Bay City; and a brother-in-law, Henry (Bev) Kolm of Auburn. Besides his parents, Manfred was preceded in death by a brother, Horst (Christel) Nitschmann and their daughter Eleonore and her husband Wilhelm; and several uncles, aunts and cousins. It was Mr. Nitschmann's desire for cremation to take place. The family would like to extend an invitation to family and friends to join them in a Celebration of Manfred's Life at the Doubletree Hotel in Bay City on Saturday, December 21, 2013 between the hours of 12:30 and 3:00 p.m. with a luncheon to be served at 1:00 p.m. For those who so desire, memorial contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice. www.gephartfuneralhome.com
